Amazon OneLink Explained: How It Works and Its Alternatives

Free, built by Amazon, and genuinely useful — with one specific limitation worth knowing before you rely on it.

OneLink is Amazon's own free tool for redirecting international visitors to their local Amazon marketplace, with their own country's affiliate tag attached, instead of landing on a mismatched storefront. It's a real, Amazon-built solution to the exact problem this whole guide cluster covers — and it costs nothing to use.

How it actually works

You link your tracking IDs for each marketplace you're registered in through Associates Central. Once set up, a base Amazon link you've configured redirects a visitor to the matching marketplace automatically, with the appropriate linked tag swapped in — covering roughly a dozen non-US marketplaces alongside the origin.

The one limitation that matters most

Amazon's own help documentation states this plainly: links created by third-party shorteners are not supported and will not be redirected. OneLink is built for Amazon links embedded directly on a website you own — not for a link shared as a standalone URL in an Instagram or TikTok bio, a video description, or anywhere outside a page you control.

In practice, this means: if every Amazon link you share lives on your own blog or website, OneLink covers you, for free. If any of your Amazon links need to function as a bio link, or get shared through a shortener for any reason, OneLink's redirect won't apply to that link.

What it requires regardless

OneLink doesn't bypass registration — it only automates the swap between marketplaces you're already an approved Associate in. It can't earn you commission in a country you haven't joined; it just removes the manual work of building separate tagged links once you have.

When you need something else

For links that have to work as a bio link, in a caption, or anywhere off a site you own, a tool built specifically to localize a standalone shareable link (rather than one embedded on a page) covers the case OneLink doesn't.
